Roofers in Whitley Bay

Whitley Bay is where Willow Roofing has done more work than anywhere else on the coast. Fourteen of our sixty-three MyBuilder reviews come from this one town — full re-roofs, dry verge replacements, storm repairs, cladding and the small tile jobs that other firms cannot be bothered to price. Every one of those jobs was surveyed by the owner himself, and he has led the team on every roof we have touched here in the years since.

Our yard at Arrow Close Business Centre in Killingworth is a fifteen-minute drive from the seafront, which matters more than it sounds. When a December storm lifts verge tiles on Park View, we can be there the same morning to look, and usually within days to fix. One Whitley Bay customer wrote that the whole process, from posting the job to a finished repair, took less than twenty-four hours. That is what being genuinely local looks like.

The older streets behind the seafront and around Park View are largely Edwardian terraces: pitched slate roofs, tall shared chimneys and cement-bedded verges that have now taken a century of weather straight off the North Sea. Salt-laden easterly wind is unforgiving here. It scours mortar out of verges and ridge lines, corrodes nails and gutter fixings, and finds every slipped slate long before an inland roof would show a leak.

Away from the front, much of Whitley Bay and neighbouring Monkseaton is 1930s semis — bay windows with small flat roofs above them, hipped tiled roofs, and timber fascias that the sea air punishes. Those bay-top flat roofs are a quiet, recurring failure point across the town: original felt long past its life, letting water into the bay below. We re-roof them properly in EPDM or GRP rather than patching felt over felt.

Our record here is a matter of public review rather than our own say-so. We re-roofed a 1930s semi completely — main pitched roof and the flat roofs above both bay windows — for a customer who called the result top notch. We replaced a full house of dry verge in half a day. After Storm Arwen, we stepped in for a homeowner left with a leaking, half-finished extension roof, made it watertight within the week and sourced reclaimed tiles that saved him around £500. Keith and Pam on the coast had their kitchen extension stripped, membraned, re-tiled and guttered, and gave us full marks out of ten.

The work Whitley Bay asks of us reflects its position on the coast. Dry verge and dry ridge systems replace failing cement mortar so the wind has nothing left to pick at. When storms come through — Arwen being the harshest in recent memory — we prioritise making homes watertight first and arguing about the weather later.
