Our base at Arrow Close Business Centre in Killingworth, NE12, is a few miles from the city centre: close enough that the owner can be on a roof in Heaton, Fenham or Kenton within twenty minutes of a call. He has spent more than twenty-three years on the tools and still leads every Newcastle job personally, from the survey and the quote to the scaffold plan and the finished ridge line.
Newcastle’s housing is a study in layers. Heaton, Jesmond and Byker are known for their Tyneside flats, which share long continuous roof slopes originally laid in Welsh slate. Fenham’s Victorian terraces carry the same slate over century-old timbers. North of the Town Moor, Kenton’s 1930s semis wear hipped clay-tiled roofs, Gosforth’s Edwardian avenues keep their tall chimneys and ornate ridges, and Brunton Park’s 1950s bungalows are now coming due for full renewal. Can you re-roof one home’s section of a Tyneside flat, or must the whole terrace roof be done?
A Tyneside flat’s roof usually falls to the upper flat to maintain, but the slope itself runs continuously along the terrace. We regularly renew a single property’s section, tying new slate or tile cleanly into the neighbours’ covering at the boundary. We will say plainly at survey whether a partial job makes sense or would be money poorly spent.
My Victorian terrace has its original Welsh slate. Can you match it?
Yes. Much of Heaton, Jesmond and Fenham was roofed in Welsh slate, and where the budget allows we re-lay in matching reclaimed or new Welsh slate. Where it does not, a good Spanish slate sits respectably alongside the originals. We bring samples to the survey so you can judge the difference against your own street, not a catalogue.
How do you manage scaffolding and access on tight terraced streets?
Access is part of the quote, not an afterthought. On narrow streets in Heaton or Byker we arrange scaffolding, back-lane access and any permits before work begins, and we let your neighbours know when the scaffold is going up. Materials arrive as they are needed rather than sitting on the pavement for a fortnight.

Well what can I say. Absolutely amazing jobs. Davey and the lads are top draw. Her early real workers and replaced my very large roof on my conservatory in no time at all. After being done from another roofing company I had lost faith in tradesmen. If only all were as good as these guys the world would be a better place. Can't thanks them enough and Davey fixed a few other issues from other tradesmen with no problem at all. Great work guys and can't recommend these enough. Honest price, if you get these guys in you'll be at ease and super happy with the work they do.

David Wells and his team replaced the inclined tiled roof to our ground floor kitchen extension and did a superb job removing both the old tiles and the degraded waterproofing with new tiling and an inner membrane lining. They also fitted new guttering and down pipe which had previously been absent, which enhanced the look of the finished project. The team were very professional, friendly, respectful of our property and non-intrusive. Full marks out of ten all-round. In quoting for the work and in subsequent lead up correspondence negotiating the detail of timing and materials for the work, we have nothing but praise for Dave and his directness, clarity and honesty in his dealings with us.
