Roofers in Blaydon

Blaydon is a working town on the south bank of the Tyne, and it deserves a roofer who works the same way: without fuss, without upselling, and without disappearing once the deposit clears. Willow Roofing is led from the front by its owner, who has spent more than twenty-three years on roofs across the North East and still runs every job in person, from the first survey and written quote to the final sweep of the yard.

We will be honest about where we stand in Blaydon: our sixty-three MyBuilder reviews, all of them positive, were earned mostly north and east of here, though three of them come from Ryton, immediately next door. We are steadily extending our work along this stretch of the river, and we would far rather win Blaydon street by street on the strength of finished roofs than claim a history we do not yet have.

Blaydon's housing follows the shape of its industrial past. Down towards the river and the shopping precinct are the surviving terraces of the old town, brick-built with pitched roofs that have usually been re-covered at least once, and not always well. Climbing the bank are generations of semi-detached houses — interwar and post-war council and private stock — most of them under concrete tiles that are now fifty years old or more.

Above the town, Winlaton adds older, sturdier stock around its village core, along with newer estates on the high ground. The common enemy here is the weather that drives up the Tyne valley from the west: rain arrives almost horizontally for days at a time, and it finds every weak verge, tired ridge and cracked chimney flashing on a west-facing slope.

We will not pretend to reviewed jobs in Blaydon itself, because there are none yet — and we think a roofer's honesty about small things is a fair guide to his honesty about large ones. What we do have is reviewed work in Ryton, one village upstream: roof gullies re-cemented on a detached bungalow with thirty years of moss cleared and extra pointing done at no charge, a Velux window repaired on time and on budget, and a blocked gutter cleared without fuss. Every one of those customers said they would use us again, and Blaydon is five minutes further along the same road.

Along this exposed stretch of the west Tyne, the calls we expect most are for storm damage and its slower cousins: ridge and verge mortar shaken loose, slipped tiles on west-facing pitches, and flashings lifted around chimneys. We repair all of it properly rather than patching, and where a concrete-tiled semi is simply worn out we re-roof with new underlay, battens and tiles.
